Classic Cars Drive Donation at the Family Center for Autism!
Baldwin resident Eric Blunt along with his friend, Kevin Paray, who has a brother with autism went to a gathering during April “Autism Awareness Month” when Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano made an appearance at The Family Center For Autism in Garden City. Blunt and Paray, classic car enthusiasts immediately thought: “How can we connect classic cars together with raising money for The Family Center For Autism” (which provides educational services to more than 100 people with autism from Long Island).
They asked the Nassau County Executive on the spot about the idea of staging a classic car show in the mammoth parking lot behind the Supreme Court Buildings on County Seat Drive: Packed with cars during the week but wide open and empty on a Sunday.
On Sunday, June 26th, more than 300 car collectors, and vintage owners turned out to display their proud vehicles. It was an outpouring of yesteryear auto fans exhibiting all makes and models with prizes for “best choice”, “best tuner” “best classic” and “best stance”, complete with DJ music and family time.
Most important, about $2500 was raised for The Family Center For Autism.
