Sports & Fitness

All of us need physical activity to stay healthy and happy. At the Family Center for Autism, we offer exercise classes, organized sports, movement and fitness programs specifically designed to meet the needs of children, tweens/teens and adults with autism—as well as free fitness classes for their parents or grandparents with a family membership. These classes are also open to the community to foster inclusion.

TINY TOTS (2- to 5-years old)

Parent & Me Yoga *New Class!*

Join us for an hour of bonding and exercising with your child! This program, for children younger than 5 and their caretaker, will build your child’s strength and flexibility wile also teaching them relaxation techniques. It will also give the adult an opportunity to strengthen their bond with their child through a fun, shared experience.

Soccer for Tots

Soccer for Tots utilizes creative and imaginative games to focus on basic soccer skills like dribbling, passing and shooting. We also highlight a positive character trait each session such as respect,

Yoga for Tots

Have your little guy or gal learn some of the fundamentals of yoga through songs, dances, and games! In addition the participants will practice social and listening skills, all while having a great time!

Tot’s Sensory Gym Action Time! *New Class*

Join us in our new state-of-the-art sensory gym to climb, jump, slide, bounce, dive, and have a great time with your friends. This free flowing, yet structured, class will build the participants gross motor skills (balancing, jumping, climbing, catching) while also strengthening their social skills (turn taking, communication, problem solving). This will be an hour of movement, action, and smiles that is sure to be a hit with the participants! (Ages 5 to 10)

 

CHILDREN (6- to 11-years old)

Karate

Learn self-defense, meditation, balance and combat within a safe and supervised environment. Taught by a martial arts instructor, the class also strengthens the fine and gross motor skills associated with kicking, punching, jumping and balancing while enhancing socialization techniques and teamwork.

Multi-Sports                

This class focuses on the fundamentals of basketball and football. Engage in fun games and drills while building skills and strengthening physical fitness. The intermediate class requires basic knowledge of passing, dribbling, and shooting a basketball as well as passing and catching a football.

Yoga                                  

Yoga is a fun and easy form of exercise that allows you to feel happy, calm and healthy! Our Children’s Yoga class utilizes songs and visuals to help the participants learn the poses and develop the ability to be relaxed and calm.

Children’s Soccer focuses on individual skill, fitness and sportsmanship, providing an opportunity for children to be challenged through fun games and team interaction. We also highlight a positive character trait each session such as respect, teamwork and appreciation. The class will be taught by Soccer Shots’ amazing instructors and supported by staff from the FCA!

 

TWEENS/TEENS (12- to 17-years old)

Zumba Rhythms

Zumba is a fun and exciting way to increase aerobic activity while moving and grooving to popular music. Easy to follow moves and great music make this a popular class enjoyed by all.

Breathe & Body Yoga

Yoga is a fun and easy form of exercise that allows participants to feel happy, calm and healthy! Practice relaxation techniques, postures, breath, balance, flexibility and deep stretches.   The Level 2 session requires participants to be able to do basic yoga poses independently.

1:1 Personal Training

Focused on developing a foundation for strength, stability and motor planning with individualized programming, each participant will have specific short- and long-term healthy lifestyle goals. Full on Fitness combines innovative fitness modalities, (medicine balls, sandbags, fitness ropes, and bodyweight movements) with positive behavior support using ABA methodologies.
